Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... |
Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 9th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
This months show, which takes place on Thursday, July 20, features Karinda Dobbins, Ronn Vigh, birthday girl Bridget Schwartz, Priya Prasad, and Lisa Geduldig.
Karinda Dobbins has opened for Dave Chappelle, Trevor Noah, and toured with W. Kamau Bell. She performed on Comedy Central's Colossal Clusterfest, and Bitch Magazine said Karinda is one of "Six Hilarious Female Comedians You Don't Know Yet But Should. www.karindadobbins.socxs.com
Ronn Vigh hits the stage with his brash attitude and acerbic wit that once earned him a comparison to a young Joan Rivers by The SF Weekly. They were certainly on to something as Ronn later became a joke writer for Rivers on her E! Television show, Fashion Police. Equal parts edgy and endearing, Ronn performs regularly at comedy clubs, colleges and theaters across the country. He has headlined Reno Gay Pride, performed at Lake Tahoe Gay & Lesbian WinterFest, Michigan ComedyFest, SF SketchFest, Bird City Comedy Festival, and more.
Bridget Schwartz was a well-known San Francisco comic for many years (a Josies favorite), and then she took a hiatus to do something else for a while. That "something else" turned into "nothing" so she decided to come back and tell us all about middle age. She has no new insights, but went out with 70 different men on OKCupid just to see if any of them noticed she was wearing two different colored socks. She likes cats and hamsters, but not at the same time (sad story), has spent time in jail in Munich, Germany and has invented a now famous yoga pose called "Downward Facing Whore." Come see her fall apart on stage.
Priya Prasad comes from an East Indian background, grew up in suburban Seattle, and makes Oakland her home. Her style of comedy is witty, intelligent, and rich with the cultural experience of an urban East Indian American woman. In the last few years, she has hit comedy stages around the country with a force of a thousand dancing elephants. In 2010, her second time ever on stage, she advanced and eventually won San Francisco's Speech Therapy Comedy Competition. In 2013 she advanced to the Semi-Final round of the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition. She was featured on Susan Alexander's Five Funny Females Comedy Tour in 2010 and 2014 and has been a repeat feature on Jabari Davis & Associates Showcase at San Francisco's historic Purple Onion. Since her first time on stage, Priya has participated in competitions and comedy festivals, including the 2014 Women in Comedy Festival, Boston, The Desi Comedy Festival & the LA Comedy Festival, all of which lead her to her first TV appearance on Season 9 of NBC's Last Comic Standing! www.priyapcomedy.com
